Harmattan®

Harmattan® is a small-formated terracotta sunscreen (300 mm) with an ovoid shape.
It is available in eight colours and two finishes (smooth and sanded).

Assembly Principle

(System not sold by TERREAL) Between three and five (usually) Harmattan® sunscreens are threaded onto a 20 x 20 mm metal tube along with flexible interfaces that fit between them.
Non-rectifi ed products (± 4 mm in length), Harmattan® components are usually glued or wedged onto the metal tube with a spring.

H = Height, L = Length , W = Width - * theoretical dimensions at close terracotta tolerances

Performance

> Shade provided: wide and fi ne, usually fi tted at 200 mm centres for optimum shading, between sunscreens of 100 and 200 mm. > Impact resistance: this depends mainly on the correct sizing of the metal tubes that are simply covered by the Harmattan® and the supporting structure. Its use on a balcony without a steel guard rail in between is not recommended; where necessary, it is advisable to carry out a test in situ, if such an installation is envisioned. > Wind resistance: distortion of the tubes under the weight of the terracotta (limited to 1/300 or 1/500 of the length, for example) is the main criterion for the choice of tube (usually steel or aluminum), and for the length chosen for the sunscreen bars. Their distortion under wind loading (1/100 of the maximum length, for example) is usually less; however, this should be confi rmed by calculation.

INSTALLATION

Système de mise en oeuvre

Installation example : Fitted on a Maestral® profile on brackets

> The bars are pre-drilled at the ends and screwed to the front of the Maestral® profiles, fixed to brackets, framing the bay and also carrying the Maestral® cladding across to the non-window parts of the wall.

> Beside the flexible interfaces between the terracotta products, the separation of products on the same tube is emphasized by the use of tubular metal spacers.
