The Phonicéram® is a small formatted (up to 295 x 595 mm) single-skined, low thickness (15 mm) terracotta acoustic facing, fi xed to a framework over mineral wool, also existing in a form where it is pre-fitted to the terracotta: Phonicéram® dB.
They are based on Zéphir® cladding. Phonicéram® and Phonicéram® dB are available in ten colours and two perforation designs (14 mm wide), horizontal or vertical (contact us for other designs).
A very good acoustic performance to price ratio.
Its acoustic performance, particularly in the area of education for Phonicéram® and in education and office applications for Phonicéram® dB.
The advantages of the Zéphir® system (under Technical approval no. 2/08-1330, see page 19):
- Its ease of use,
- a unique visual signature due to its low thickness, to the variety of types of perforation and its two formats that can be used in combination.
They may be used in combination with Zéphir® cladding.

Phonicéram® and Phonicéram® dB are suspended from aluminium rails (Zéphir® rail), supported on a vertical framework of profiles or battens.
For Phonicéram®, the insulation is fitted in the spaces between the vertical framework profiles. For Phonicéram® dB, the 20 mm acoustic insulation, carried by the product itself, performs the acoustic absorption function.
There are various accessories not supplied by TERREAL (in italics in the diagrams): metal or PVC profi les for flashings and various finishes, various screws, fixing anchors, thermal insulation, mastic, fixing brackets and wood or metal framework uprights.
The Principles for installing Phonicéram® and Phonicéram® dB are the same as for Zéphir®, covered by CSTB Technical approval no. 2/08-1330.
The fitting of the wood or metal profile vertical framework to a concrete or rendered masonry substrate must comply with the rules contained in CSTB specifications nos. 3316/3422/3585, (wooden framework) – or nos. 3194/3586 (metal framework).
Fixing the profiles, using brackets, spaced at between 30 and 90 cm on the outside and up to 120 cm on the inside, depending on the mechanical strength requirements, requires them to be staggered on either side of the upright at a distance appropriate to the situation.
A metal framework based on Z-shape profiles, fixed directly to the support wall, may also be used. Positioned horizontally from the bottom upwards, in line with the spacing indicated on every pallet (theoretical average spacing: 300 mm with standard rail), the rails are fixed to the framework, maintaining a gap of 1 – 2 cm between the ends of rails on the same row.
Phonicéram® or Phonicéram® dB products are then fitted to the rails as work proceeds (from bottom to top), stabilised by two dots of Sikaflex® Pro 11 FC mastic between the product’s lower lug and the upper wing of the rail, adjusting the average vertical joint to 5 mm between products.
At critical points, it is preferable to use Zéphir® which can be cut vertically without difficulty (12 cm minimum) or horizontally (use the intermediate lugs for fixing), using a diamond tipped saw, preferably lubricated with water.
